13 reasons you should choose a winter wedding

at The Ashes Barns

There is something quite magical and romantic about the colder months of the year that make it perfect time to get married! Boozy hot chocolates, mulled wine, faux fur and lots of sparkle - take a look at the top reasons why you should choose a winter wedding...

1. Off Peak Period

A winter wedding is an off-peak time of year to get married. Getting married in the off-peak season comes with a whole host of benefits. Venue Hire & Event Management Services prices begin at a discounted price of £2,950 in the winter months. A winter date also means you have more choice when it comes to suppliers as they’re less likely to be booked up with other weddings! It will also be easier to find local accommodation near to The Ashes Barns as the rush of the summer months will be over.

2. Festive Décor

Deep, rich, royal colours and elegant decorations work wonderfully in the colder months.

Embrace the winter wedding theme with pinecones, foliage, holly, baubles and wreaths. Fairy lights and lots of sparkle.

Scented candles like Gingerbread or Cinnamon really set off the winter mood and make the barns feel extra toasty, cosy and warm.

3. Prepared for bad weather

Good weather in the UK can never be guaranteed at any point of year, but with a winter wedding date, the weather on your wedding day isn't the focus of your day.

Crisp winter sunshine, beautiful frosty mornings or even a smattering of snow is just an added bonus for your wedding day. Your guests (hopefully!) will also come to your wedding prepared and bring coats with them to keep them warm and dry if they're venturing outside.

4. Winter Wonderland

Turn your winter wedding into a miniature winter wonderland for you and your guests. Serve boozy hot chocolates, a pimp your hot chocolate station with marshmallows and cream, mulled wine and cider and various other hot drinks to keep your guests warm and toasty in the winter months.

When it comes down to food, fill your guests up with festive feasts, and hearty traditional favourites such as pies, bangers and mash and warm desserts such as apple crumble.

5. Wedding Fatigue

Spring and summer is officially wedding season and hectic with weddings for both the venue and guests. Weddings are tiring and your guests will easily get tired of attending back to back weddings.

With a winter wedding, both you and your guests will have something to look forward to in the winter and it will give your guests time to refresh after the summer wedding season.

6. Long dark nights

In the height of winter, it can go dark as early as 3/4pm.

These long, dark nights mean it’s much easier to get your guests down on to the dancefloor – no matter how amazing your band and DJ are, you will struggle to get a full dancefloor when it’s still light outside. Winter Weddings are perfect to get your guests dancing all night long.

7. Elegant Dresses

One for the brides. Embrace your inner Ice Queen when it comes down to choosing your dream wedding dress.

Lots of sparkle always works well in the winter months and elegant sleeves on your dress will help to take the chill away.

Accompany your dress with faux fur shawls and jackets to keep warm and cosy.

8. Festive Spirit

On the lead up to Christmas, everyone gets into the festive mood and is ready to party, this makes winter the perfect time to celebrate your marriage in November and December.

If you would prefer a late winter wedding in January or February, this gives your guests something to look forward too after the rush of Christmas and gives them chance to recharge over the festive period and be rearing to go for your new year wedding.

9. Winter Sun

Whilst we can't guarantee the weather on your wedding day, getting married in winter means you can enjoy some winter sun on your honeymoon.

With discounted venue hire prices in the winter months, you can save your pennies to treat yourself and jet off somewhere exotic. Just imagine lying on a white sandy beach, sipping fruity cocktails in a winter paradise.

10. More date availability

Picking a winter date leaves you with a lot more choice on your date.

If you have a date in mind before you visit The Ashes Barns or you just really want a Saturday, there's more chance of your perfect date being available in the winter months.

11. Glitz and Glam

A winter wedding is an excuse for everyone to embrace the glitz and glam of the season and really add some sparkle to your day. Sequin dresses, sparkly accessories and smart black ties make the ideal dress code for a winter wedding.

You can even glitz up the barns and courtyard with fairy lights and festoon lighting to add that wow factor to your day.

12. Extra decorations

Everyone loves a freebie. During the festive season, we provide a magnificently large Christmas Tree in the North Courtyard, strewn with white fairy lights and a Christmas Tree in both The West Barn and on the Viewing Balcony of the East Barn, both decorated with fairy lights and neutral baubles to compliment your winter wedding theme.

13. No reason to say no

When choosing a summer wedding date, holidays and other weddings quickly fill up peoples schedules in the summer months, leaving it tricky to find a date that suits everyone.

A winter wedding date is easier for everyone, your guests are much less likely to be going on holiday or be booked up with other commitments.
