Lizzie and Lindsay
Beautiful Same Sex Wedding at The Ashes Barns
Neighbours from the beginning!
We met in our local village and started chatting. When we arranged our first date, we hadn't realised that we lived in the same street and in fact just 6 doors down from each other!
I (Lizzie) knew it was right from our first date and went home and told my housemate that I'd met the woman I was going to marry!
One of our many holidays took us to New York, a city we both instantly fell in love with! It was on our second trip to New York in June 2016, that Lindsay proposed under Brooklyn Bridge. The whole day of the proposal was a complete surprise! It was made even more romantic by an early morning helicopter trip, an afternoon of famous NYC ice cream and an evening stroll over Brooklyn Bridge with a photographer waiting to capture the moment.
Our love of travel has now moved us to the other side of the world to live in Perth, Western Australia.
When we first looked at The Ashes Barns, we had another 5 venues on our list to view. Within minutes of walking into the first barn, Lindsay told me to cancel all of the other viewings as we'd found our perfect wedding venue!
We fell in love with the rustic look of the two barns and the beautiful surrounding grounds of The Ashes (and also the highland cows!) From the moment we arrived, the staff could not have done more to make us feel welcome and to answer all our questions. We were made to feel special right from the start.
We wanted a relaxed, rustic feel to the day with little personalised touches that would make our guests feel special and add a hint of fun.
We had a sweetie bar filled with our childhood favourites, presents on the tables to keep the children entertained and a candy cane favour for each guest along with their name place.
We supplied some LED battery powered fairy lights, which we felt gave it an extra special touch to the barns.
Our florist was The Topiary Tree, a Dream Team supplier for The Ashes Barns. The team could not have done more to welcome us from our first appointment. We first went in with a handful of relatively vague pinterest pictures and from this they produced beautiful bouquets and wonderful displays for the registry table and the balcony.
We went for muted pinks roses and winter greens such as eucalyptus leaves tied with long white ribbon. Our bridesmaids had simple bouquets of gypsophila tied with grey ribbon.

We chose wedding dresses entirely separately but somehow managed to end up choosing the same designer- luckily we picked different dresses! We had our bridesmaids on hand to give us feedback and ensure we didn't end up in the same dress!
Lindsay would definitely recommend trying dresses outside of your first choice of style/comfort zone. She quickly narrowed it down to her top three and then got her Mum involved to help her choose the best dress.
Tom Halliday captured our big day in spectacular style and we would 100% recommend him. Tom is a pro at calming nerves, making us laugh and taking beautiful photographs. He knows just how to read the environment and use the weather (whatever it may be) to his absolute advantage. We had so much fun that time flew, it never felt like you were standing still posing for photographs.
Lizzie was very specific when choosing the right wedding photographer. I didn't understand the importance till I saw some of the photographs that Tom captured. I would definitely recommend spending time to pick a photographer that will capture your big day in exactly the style you would like so you have something to look back on in years to come.

Wedding Top Tips
Planning is key as it's a very important day, however don't let it become all consuming or so stressful that it spoils the enjoyment. You can't control every element of the day and you will become a nervous wreck trying to cover all eventualities! There is a real possibility that something won't go to plan, however remember the most important aspect is that you marry the one you love, in front of your friends and loved ones. In years to come, you won't remember the little things that may not have gone exactly as you planned.
Remember to enjoy yourselves and have fun! You may have spent years or months planning every detail for this day so just enjoy it when it finally arrives! I promise you it will be the happiest day of your life.
